Embedded Modules
What Are Embedded Modules?
Embedded System Modules (ESM) are modules that typically contain a CPU, memory and I/O interfaces. Consequently, they can be plugged on a carrier board or used as a stand-alone processor card.
New generations such as System on Modules (SoM) are built as SMD modules, which are attached to the carrier board by soldering.
Pluggable ESM modules for carrier boards are usually equipped with a standard PCI bus as a board-to-board interface connection. ESM are typically used as single-board computers for embedded applications (Compact PCI, VM bus, etc.).
