Digitally Calibrated, Synchronous Step-Down-Module MPM3593

The MPM3593 from MPS is a high-frequency, synchronous, rectified step-down module with an I2C control interface and a multi-page one-time programmable (OTP) memory. It can achieve up to 3A of continuous output current (IOUT), with excellent load and line regulation across a wide input voltage (VIN) range.

Containing Internal Compensation and a Feedback Divider

The module integrates an internal high-side MOSFET (HS-FET) and low-side MOSFET (LS-FET) to achieve high efficiency without requiring an external Schottky diode. With internal compensation and a feedback divider, the device provides a very compact solution that requires a minimal number of readily available, standard external components.

The MPM3593 is flexibly designed to support a 0.8-12V output voltage (VOUT) that can be adjusted on the fly via an I2C serial interface. The voltage slew rate, switching frequency (fSW), enable signal and power-save mode are also configurable via the I2C interface. This allows the user to optimise each output for different specifications.

During bench evaluations, different configurations can be easily obtained via the I2C interface instead of reworking external components. Once the optimal target configuration is reached, the settings can be permanently stored in memory. Current mode provides fast transient response and eases loop stabilisation. Full protection features include under-voltage lockout (UVLO), over-voltage protection (OVP), over-current protection (OCP) and over-temperature protection.
