TXC's New OCXO OH Series With Reduced Size
Smallest OCXO Series on the Market
TXC has developed the OCXO (Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator) OH series. The wave of the 5G boom is reaching Europe, resulting in the need for ever smaller base stations. The new OH series is currently the smallest on the market at 7x5mm (7050 size). TXC's key to this is its own heating technology.
Downsizing is frequently observed in the development of electronic components. The demand for this comes from two directions. Manufacturers are constantly improving their technical level in order to achieve lower costs due to the reduced use of materials.
But the market is also demanding applications with ever smaller electronic components than are currently available. This requires new innovative ideas.
TXC's Own Heating Technology
In particular, 5G with a much higher number of cells in the same area requires smaller base stations. Therefore, OCXOs are also required to become smaller and cheaper, while offering the same accuracy. A clear desire is to offer smaller versions than the 9x7mm products now available on the market.
There is one technical bottleneck with the OXCO, namely the oven itself. The oven keeps the internal temperature of the component very stable. Nevertheless, there are temperature differences between the IC and the crystal itself. Especially when the size gets smaller, more thermal asymmetries of IC and crystal occur. (Figure C)
To meet these requirements, TXC has developed a unique structure for heating, called ThermSymTM. ThermSymTM uses a heater embedded between the crystal blank and the IC to provide excellent thermal performance. The embedded heater layer creates a symmetrical thermal field to achieve good temperature uniformity, which increases the stability of the oven and reduces power consumption.
With High-Quality SC-Cut Crystal
With ThermSymTM, TXC achieves the required size of 7x5mm (size 7050) in the new OH series. This 7050 size is currently the smallest on the market. And with the simple structure, TXC also has a strong, competitively priced product.
Another point that sets the OH series apart is the use of a 2.5x2.0mm high quality SC-Cut crystal. This small blank enables the OH-Series to achieve frequency stability of +/-20ppb at -40 to 95°C, and up to 105°C if required. Thanks to the high quality SC-Cut crystal, very stable ageing, low acceleration sensitivity and low phase noise are achieved.
