MPS: Automotive Dual-LDO With Pre-Boost and I²C-Interface

This LDO features a boost pre-regulator that operates at either 400kHz or 2.2MHz.

Dual-Channel Low-Dropout Regulator MPQ2026A-AEC1

With the MPQ2026A-AEC1, MPS introduces a dual-channel Low-Dropout Regulator (LDO). This LDO features a boost pre-regulator that operates at either 400kHz or 2.2MHz. Additionally, it includes an industry-standard synchronous serial interface and a one-time programmable (OTP) memory.

Phantom Power for Low-Noise Amplifiers

The device provides phantom power for low-noise amplifiers (LNAs) in active antennas of automotive systems and can operate under both cold crank conditions (3V) and load dump conditions (40V). The low-dropout regulator supplies up to 300mA per channel with outstanding load and line regulation.

When the battery is healthy (meaning when the input voltage (VIN) exceeds the pre-boost turn-on threshold) during normal operation, the pre-boost regulator is completely turned off to reduce the quiescent current (IQ). This makes the MPQ2026A well-suited for power supplies that are always turned on.

Reducing the External Component Count and EMI

The pre-boost regulator provides an integrated MOSFET to further reduce the external component count and EMI. Both the LDO and boost outputs can be configured via the industry-standard synchronous serial interface. The pre-boost regulator’s output voltage (VOUT_BOOST) can be configured between 6.5V and 15.9V. The LDO output voltages (VOUT1 and VOUT2) can be configured between 1V and 13.6V. This protects the LDO output during load dumps.

During bench evaluations, different configurations can be easily obtained via the industry-standard synchronous serial interface, instead of reworking external components. Once the optimal settings have been reached, the multi-page OTP memory can permanently store the settings.

The MPQ2026A comes in a compact QFN-16 (4x4mm) package.
