FunctionMAX Series: Floating Board-to-Board Connectors

HIROSE's Highly Versatile Connectors

The FunctionMAX series from HIROSE includes board-to-board connectors with tolerance compensation. The floating design compensates for alignment errors during mating, allowing for high currents and fast data transmission to meet the demands of the industrial market effectively. With its wide portfolio, the series is highly versatile for various industrial applications.

Flexible Adaptation to the Movement of the Mating Connector

The floating design provides slight “play” between contacts during the mating process, thereby compensating for misalignments. Unlike conventional connectors, which require perfectly aligned centerlines, floating connectors can also be used when centerlines are not precisely aligned. The connector adjusts flexibly to the movement of the mating connector.

Advantages

  • Multiple floating connectors can be used on the same board.
  • Assembly errors are reduced, minimising the need for corrective rework.
  • The connector’s spring element absorbs stress caused by alignment errors, reducing strain on mounted components, increasing reliability, and preventing cracks in solder joints.

High-Speed Transmission

HIROSE connectors offer a robust solution for high-speed communication demands in telecommunications, automotive technology, factory automation, and medical devices through their powerful design.

FunctionMAX Series

FX20 Series (0.5mm Pitch)

The header has a unique floating structure embedded within the fixed base of the housing. This allows for alignment movement in XY directions of +/- 0.6mm minimum to compensate for mounting misalignment, vibration and dimensional errors. The independent two-point contact provides high contact reliability and resistance to vibration and shock.

FX23/23L Series (0.5 mm Pitch)

This series combines two functions in a single connector: floating contacts and high-speed transmission. The connector features a hybrid structure with both power and signal contacts. Four integrated power contacts, each capable of carrying up to 3A, are arranged compactly along the connector contacts. The signal contacts can each carry 0.5A. The connectors are also suitable for the application of protective coatings applied after soldering.

FX26 Series (1.0mm Pitch)

This specialised series was specifically designed for use in machinery environments. The two-point contacts and vibration-resistant, floating structure ensure reliable operation in conditions with constant vibrations and temperatures up to 140°C. The floating structure prevents contact issues caused by vibrations, providing maximum operational safety.

FX27 Series (0.80 mm Pitch)

The FX27 series is a floating edge-card connector specifically designed for applications requiring PCI Express Gen 1 (2.5 Gbps) high-speed data transmission. The flexible structure of the FX27 series allows for variable stacking heights, depending on the distance between interposer boards. It provides maximum design flexibility, allowing the original interposer board combination to be replaced with customised chip components.
