Latest Fully Certified System on Module Solution

The TobuFi SOM is the latest fully certified system on module solution from our partner 8DEVICES. It is built using the latest QUALCOMM technologies. It integrates a powerful Quad Core ARM based system on chip, the QCS-405, which incorporates DSP processing for audio codecs as well as a dedicated GPU for video and graphics along with a rich set of external interfaces. The rich processing power in the QCS-405 is complemented by QUALCOMM’s latest MU-MIMO Wi-Fi6 solution WNC9074, which was designed for long range Wi-Fi communications. A secondary Wi-Fi radio is also integrated in the SOM. The WCN9380 is a MU-MIMO Wi-Fi5 and its purpose is to connect accessories within closer range of the TobuFI SOM.

8DEVICES are well known in the market as communications specialists and they have optimised the architecture of the TobuFi SOM to increase the effective communications range and improve the robustness of the available Wi-Fi links. TobuFi SOM supports dual band Wi-Fi communications and is configured to deliver an impressive 28dBm RF output power per chain on the 2.4Ghz radio and 27dBm RF output power per chain on the 5Ghz radio. Additionally, it offers support for 5Mhz and 10Mhz channel widths which ensures robust communication over longer range. The QCN9074 frequency range has been extended and frequency shifting, using non-standard centre frequencies, is also incorporated to mitigate interference and congestion.

Software Basis and Software Deployment

TobuFi software build foundation is based on OpenEmbedded/Yocto. Yocto SDK is composed of multiple BSP and application layers, development and upgrade tools providing developers means to integrate TobuFi modules and extend software to build tailored software distributions. To jumpstart the development of custom applications, the SDK provides image recipes. These recipes enable the creation of comprehensive product development kits, demo applications and software images tailored for system startup. Furthermore, integrated ADB tools and fastboot support simplifies platform development.

To complement the long-range communications capabilities of the TobuFi SOM advanced Audio processing functionality is also available via a feature rich software SDK provided for the QCS-405. With up to 8 mics support on the QCS-405 QUALCOMM offer assistance for beamforming, stationary and non-stationary noise suppression, wind noise mitigation, voice activity detection, speaker movement detection, audio source tracking and audio zoom among other features.
